History will be made during the next two weeks. People all over the world will be inspired by the athletes…by their poise, their grit and their pure determination. The stories of how they have achieved greatness will be shared throughout the event and the next generation of athletes will be motivated to keep reaching for the highest goals.
B2B marketers and salespeople are no different. We will watch the Olympics and be inspired too. After all, we are competitors.
We compete everyday. We compete for the attention of our target audience. We compete with our business’ competitors. We race against the clock to get things published. We set goals and measure ourselves against them.
At Imagine, one of our core values is “Play to win. Hate to lose.” We hate losing more than we love winning. Watching the Olympics is a natural for us. We view ourselves as the marketing and sales equivalent of elite athletes. We don’t quit.
That said, everything we do is hard work. Inbound marketing is a grind. We are always working to perfect a craft that probably can’t be perfected. Results can be slow. The many moving parts can be overwhelming.
Sales and sales development require a thick skin, staying power and a determination to succeed that most people don’t have. Some days giving up might seem like the best option. Some days we need inspiration.
The Olympics provides a great opportunity for inspiration and it comes at the right time. We’re into Q3…late summer. It’s easy to take your eye off the prize and enjoy the end of summer…slack off a little bit…take your foot off the gas.
If you’re having a hard time staying motivated, here are 17 quotes from Olympians past and present to remind you that anything is possible…in the world of sports AND the world of sales and marketing.
